In case you missed it last week, BBC’s Watchdog looked into the importance of security at Self Storage facilities. This has been a major issue for some storage companies recently, and at Alexanders we want to reassure customers that security is our top priority. Alexanders are members of the Self-Storage Association who have strict regulations in place with respect to security. The BBC Watchdog described one specific storage company which had recently been targeted and broken into several times due to the 24 hours access capability at their site. These Self-Storage units were also members of the SSA, and they did have all the security measures in place, but they found themselves at risk of being broken into at night time where customers had 24 hours access to the warehouse as the thieves were able to gain access to the site through the automatic gates when genuine customers were leaving.
At Alexanders we only allow access to storage units during office opening hours. This means that at no time are our warehouses unattended and we don’t allow independent access after hours. Our opening times are Monday to Friday 7:00AM to 6:00PM and Saturday 9:00 to 5:00. When it comes to storing at Alexanders we ID check all customers upon entrance and there is no access allowed into the warehouse without authorisation. All our security measures eliminate the problems that were featured on the BBC Watchdog programme. At no time is it possible for unauthorised personnel to gain access to the storage units. The specific security measures we have in place can be seen below:
- 24hr CCTV
- Gated compound (gates locked at night)
- Red care alarm systems
- Security guard on keyholder/response
- Access during office hours only
- ID check on entrance
- Customer has only keys to the unit (unless a spare key is held here upon request)
