Job Description

As an Experienced Porter/3,5 Tonne Driver you will undertake standard Porter and Porter-Driver responsibilities as well as being a Foreman on a job from time to time.

Foreman duties

As the Foreman on a job you will be responsible for the smooth running of the removal on the day of the move. You will manage the team of porters assigned to your job, ensure that we deliver the optimum customer experience, liaise when necessary with Operations and Move Managers, at the same time as making sure that your team adheres to Health and Safety requirements at all times.

Customer Care

Keep customer informed of any delays to your arrival at start of job and introduce yourself to the customer as the main point of contact. You will ensure that all the client’s requirements are being met, ensuring you and your team are polite and courteous at all times. You will also be required to present yourself in a professional manner at all times and adhere to the company uniform and smoking policies.

Removal Coordination

You will be responsible for ensuring that you have the resources required to undertake the removal efficiently and effectively. You will communicate with the office as soon as possible for any requirements needed to complete the removal effectively.

Health and Safety

Safe systems of work will be followed at all times. You will need to conduct an initial risk assessment at the start of any move to ensure compliance. You will ensure that your team are wearing correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. You may be required to drive up to a 3.5t vehicle and when doing so must comply with all H&S vehicle requirements.

Driving Vehicles

When driving you are responsible for keeping the cab free from rubbish and for returning the vehicle to the fleet at the end of the day clean and tidy and with adequate fuel.

You will be responsible for making sure that the vehicle is legally parked. Where parking may result in a parking fine this must be authorized first by the Operations team in the office.

Team management

You will be responsible for ensuring that the removal team carry out the move in the most effective and efficient manner. You are also responsible for your team’s behaviour and work ethic and will strive for excellence. You will be responsible for monitoring performance, notifying the Operations Manager of any concerns, and may be required to provide performance reports to the management team.

Quality assurance

You will be responsible for ensuring that our customer’s property is handled in accordance with Alexanders’ policy to ensure that items are not damaged. You will report any damage to the Move Managers without delay.

When you are not appointed as a Foreman

On some jobs you will not be the appointed Foreman and you will work as a porter being managed by the allocated Foreman.

Job Type: Full-time 6 days a week

Salary: £8.21 to £10.00 /hour

Although you will start on an hourly rate, upon successful completion of the probationary period, you would be offered a salary, which will take into account your demonstrated skills, shown in the first 3 months of your employment.
