The Livity School is a special needs primary school for 90 children with autistic spectrum disorders and profound and multiple learning difficulties. After a decade of campaigning by the head teacher, in spring 2013 the building of a stunning new school with a hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and glass lift was finally completed. Alexanders beat four competitors to win the contract to move the school from its old site to the new location.

It was far from a simple move with thirty teachers all with individual requirements as well as last minute changes of schedule to accommodate. Alexanders maintained a detailed moving plan to ensure that the move went seamlessly.

Starting with the packing, the Alexanders team boxed up some classrooms whilst the teachers packed up others. The Livity School also took the opportunity to clear out some old files and furniture and Alexanders arranged for a 20 yard skip to be collected and emptied eight times!

Alexanders wrapped up specialist equipment and developed a secure system to ensure the confidentiality of the school records during the move. Using a colour coding system, Alexanders was able to track all boxes and equipment in the move. Every classroom in the original site was assigned a colour that matched its destination classroom.

“We organised a 20-yard skip for the pre-move clear out, which was emptied an impressive eight times!”

14,000 cubic feet of boxes and equipment were moved to the new site, the equivalent of seven articulated lorries.
In just two weeks in the Easter holiday, with ten men on site every day, the whole move was completed with the new school opening its doors on time for the summer term.

Client comment

“The Livity School received an excellent service from Alexanders Removals. Moving a whole school was a challenge, the staff at Alexanders offered good advice and worked really hard over the days of the move.”
